The Lavoir

As per most rural country villages, we have our own 'lavoir', a small building where the women would wash their clothes. I don't know how old is the one in our hamlet, but it usually only has water in it from Autumn to Spring and, these days, is only used by Serge, an old chap of about 55 who hangs his washing out to dry in it!

So, I was surprised to see 2 workman stripping off the old roof tiles and begin to replace the roof with new timber and tiles. But this is a reflection of the desire to retain the local heritage around us. A desire strong enough to spend community money on its refurbishment.





As you can see, even though we're nearly at the shortest day, we've not had enough water for any to show in our Lavoir.
