A Red Letter Day in Paradise
Whilst every day here is exciting, yesterday was even better than usual.
The day began early as we had to be in Cahor Hospital for Sue to have a scan at 8.30. (This meant using the alarm!!) Scan completed, we walked into the town for breakfast and then a quick look in some clothes shops for Sue before a return to the hospital for an appointment with her oncologist at 11. The oncologist, Dr. Levasseur, has just taken over Sue's case, only having seen her once about 3 years ago, but we were very impressed by the way she quickly got up to speed with Sue's history, was very efficient and with a very good doctor/patient style. The results of the scan were with Dr. Levasseur after only 90 minutes and she confirmed that there was no deterioration from the previous scan, bloods were good and everything is progressing well. We left the appointment very happy.
However, it seems that any trip to Cahor involves shopping and we dutifully visited Lidl and then a garden centre!!!
Our afternoon was planned around an Art Exhibition, Goujoun'art, at the nearby village of Goujounac. Here, about 40 artists are displaying in barns, caves and the church for all of this week.
We began our tour around the village. looking at pictures and sculptures, some of which were 'interesting' .................
........... and some of which, like this lady's sculptures, were wonderful!
At one of the displays we got into conversation with the artist himself; initially because we realised that he was painting on cardboard. He was an 'old boy' (kettle and pot here?) and we thought that he perhaps painted for something to do, but then he began to talk and show us some catalogues of his exhibitions at Cahors and Bilbao, and talked of having work in London and New York! Unbelieveable!
We continued our tour of the exhibition but, at one display, the artist told us to wait a little as the local tv was interviewing outside in the street. We subsequently went out and saw that it was an interviewer and a camera-lady filming poeple's reactions to the exhibition. And guess what .... despite my protestations of being English , and she would have to speak slowly, I had my 5 minutes of fame being interviewed for French local tv. I expect it will have finished on the cutting-room floor!!!
After a coffee to revive ourselves we went into the church where a group of artists were displaying. This was a very eclectic mix of work, some of which prompted discussion between Sue and myself. So much so that the lady at the entrance who had curated the show and who was the artist responsible for the piece we were talking about, joined us and we all talked about art and art styles. The emperor and his clothes didn't actually get mentioned!
So home, and a busy, exciting day was rounded off with a bottle of cheap bubbly on the terrace.
Back to 'normality' now.
