Odd Job man
Today (Sunday) has been a day of tidying up small jobs. Finding and fitting some old wood above the new window in the bedroom. Making a small shutter for the 'window' in the Boiler room where the oil man will pass his pipe to fill our oil tanks. And, then the big one. We have one (maybe two) beams that 'bounce' when you walk on them. So, before I put up the ceiling in the bathroom and passage, I decided to install a reinforcing beam, sunk into a wall at one end and resting ontop of one of the new walls we've built for the boiler room.
The first problem was to get a 3 metre beam up into position; not easy as it is pretty heavy. Then we had to support the 'free' end whilst I made a hole in the wall. One of Cyrille's props came in handy here. Once we'd got the beam into the wall, I then jacked up each beam which was to be supported so that I could jam blocks of wood between the two beams to eliminate any springing. At least that's our idea.
Back to jointing the plasterboard tomorrow!
