The End of the Beginning

I was out early this morning as our neighbours JJ and Nadine returned from their Paris home yesterday. They will be staying here for about 3 weeks. But this meant that I was anxious to ask the builders not to park across the entrance to their barn. Actually, JJ was very laid back about the mess on the road.

But then Cyrille told us that they would be doing the floors today and the cement lorry was due to arrive in the afternoon. (And there we were hoping that we would get a floor by the end of the week!) The lorry duly arrived at about 2 o'clock and it was an amazing piece of equipment. It had an incredible extending pipe which would allow it to be able to pump concrete a long way into quite inaccessible places.

The movement of the pipe delivery system was controlled by the 'little man' (the driver) who used a fairly large remote controller which he had strapped round his middle.

We realised that the Cement Mixer emptied very quickly. So, lo and behold, another bigger lorry arrived and started to discharge into the pumping mechanism of the first lorry. You don't often see 2 cement lorries in a compromising situation!

So, in the space of a couple of hours, we have floors throughout the whole of the house.

How quickly things can turn around. We need to allow 2 or 3 days for the concrete to dry before we start working on it. However, we are also going to have to wait for some of our money to be transferred to our french bank before we go ordering the materials. Realistically, we have a week and a half before it will be 'pedal to the floor'.
