We Didn't Realise......

We keep encountering situations where we see the unexpected results of our decisions in the house.

Patrick and JP, our 2 trusty workmen started preparing to increase the height of the second of the stairs walls.

In essence they have got to build an 8 foot wall, 30 foot long, on top of an old existing stone wall which is all crumbly. So their first job was to expose the top of the wall and apply a layer of concrete to both stabilise it and to provide a 'foundation' upon which to lay their blocks and stones.

Why didn't we just decide to put up a studding wall on top of the existing floor?

In the meantime, our next load of money arrived from England in our French bank. We went off to order a lorry load of plasterboard, fixing systems and blocks. We have to get on with preparing the walls in the ground floor rooms so that they are ready for the plumber to fit the underfloor heating! Just a quick £1500!! It's amazing how easy it is to accept being stupid.

You might like to know that we went to the Catering College again last night with 2 other couples. The whole meal was based around cheese, and so every course had some sort of cheese element. And, to make things even more interesting, there was a quiz on French cheeses. Needless to say, we didn't win, but then there were no questions on traditional English cheeses like Cheddar, Stilton or Brie (doesn't this come from Somerset?). We had to be at the College for 7.30 but we didn't leave till about 11.30. Another fantastic evening and we are already booked for our next visit in March.
