Things That Go Bump In The Night

There has been much activity around the owl nest in the last few days. The chicks start calling ever earlier in the evening and I have seen 3 owls flying around whilst Nadine has seen 4. We sometimes hear just one chick calling from the nest and we assume that it hatched later and is that bit less advanced. The owls start to fly earlier in the evenings now. We think that they go off because they get fed up with the racket from the youngsters. I would!

Last night about 11 o'clock we were lying in bed and we heard "Trit Trot, Trit Trot" as something ran across the ceiling above us. I immediately said it was one of the baby owls who had got lost and mistook the hole in our loft for the hole in the pigonnier where he lives. This brought forth great derision from my husband who said it sounded like a mouse or more likely a rat by the sound of it. Diana (our cat) who was lying on the bed didn't even twitch an ear. We both heard the noise again in the night and first thing this morning I sent John to investigate. He reported that he couldn't find any traces of animals but he set a mouse trap anyway.

When we went outside this morning Nadine told us that last night she had seen an owl go in through our loft hole.
We related our story and there was much hilarity at John's expense. He just will not accept that I am always right! However, the hole has now been blocked up.

Once all of this commotion died down, Sue finally resolved her problems with her steps and declared herself happy with the look of them! After only about 2 months!

Meanwhile, I finally finished all of the cementing on the roof of the Porcherie. That seems like 2 months as well! I've now got to set to and make good the walls before I can think about making some window frames. Who said that being retired is boring?
